An excellent alternative to sisal rope, this polypropylene rope is ideal for packaging various products. Practical, strong and water-resistant, this twine meets all food quality standards. This packaging rope can be purchased by roll at La Corderie (Brussels).
Polypropylene rope is rope made from polypropylene filaments, a thermoplastic polymer that is widely used in a variety of industrial and domestic products because of its light, strong and economical properties.
2. Characteristics of polypropylene rope :
- Lightweight: Polypropylene is a very light material, which makes the rope less bulky and easier to handle. It floats on water, which is a great advantage for nautical applications.
- Moisture resistance: It is highly resistant to water and mould. It's a preferred choice for damp or marine environments.
- Good chemical resistance: It is resistant to weak acids and bases, as well as many chemicals.
- Elasticity: This rope has a certain elasticity, but it can also deform under heavy loads.
- Durability: Although it is resistant to water and mould, it is less resistant to UV (sunlight) than some other fibres such as polyester or nylon, which can lead to long-term degradation from prolonged exposure to sunlight.
- Cost: This is a relatively inexpensive option compared to other types of rope such as nylon or polyester.
3. What are polypropylene ropes used for?
Polypropylene rope is versatile and can be used in a wide range of applications:
- Marine and nautical use: Because of its ability to float, it is ideal for boats, jet skis, and water-based activities.
- Construction and industry: It is used for lifting light loads, lashing and securing.
- Domestic use: Commonly used for clotheslines, fencing and gardening.
- Sporting activities: It can be used for sports such as tug-of-war or as a climbing rope in certain specific situations.
4. Advantages and disadvantages :
- Advantages :
o Lightweight and easy to handle.
o Resistant to water, mould and many chemicals.
o Good value for money.
o Floats, making it ideal for water sports.
In short, polypropylene rope is a practical, economical and versatile solution, particularly suitable for use in wet or marine environments, although it does have certain limitations compared with more robust materials for long-term or high-stress use.
